Thousands of people converged on Old Village to celebrate Pitt Street Pharmacy's 80th Birthday. Pitt Street was open only for pedestrian traffic while the street was filled with families, rides, face painting artists and food vendors. Congressman Mark Sanford was present greeting constituents.
The groundbreaking for the new MP Library, slotted for completion in late 2018, was held in Carolina Park. Mayor Linda Page, city officials, developers, architects, library board members and the media witnessed the event. The 40,000 square foot library will contain a large auditorium, conference rooms, digital media/recording areas and more.
The Town of Mt Pleasant recently held it's end of school Summer Splash Bash at the Park West Recreation Center. Hundreds of kids were in attendance celebrating the end of the school year with a DJ, water slides, food trucks and art booths.
A Pig Roast at Dunes West Golf and River Club was held on a recent Saturday evening for club members. At the well-attended event, both floors of the clubhouse were used to accommodate the turnout. Adults with their families including kids and grandkids of all ages participated.
The inaugural Gracie's Hope 5K run was recently held in Laurel Hill County Park off US 41 in honor of Gracie Benjamin, age 17, who was killed in a reckless driving incident in December 2015. More than 200 runners participated and $7,000 was raised on behalf of several local charities.
The 2017 Lowcountry Strawberry Festival included family fun, activities, games, thrilling rides and of course, strawberry picking. Striving to strike a balance of providing exciting attractions and activities with wholesome fun on the farm, the event grows bigger and better each year.
The Sperry Charleston Race Week celebrated its 21st year! The event has evolved into the largest keelboat regatta in the Western Hemisphere. Patriot's Point in Mount Pleasant offered a perfect vantage point for viewing the beautiful three-day event.
The 9th Annual Father-Daughter Dance was recently held at Seacoast Church on Long Point Rd. More than 1,000 Father-Daughter couples were in attendance. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Lowcountry Christian Community School.
The 40th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run brought out athletes, runners, walkers and people from all over the Lowcountry and the rest of the country as well! Photographer Jess Wood who participated in the race managed to snap some shots of all the action.
Under the direction of Christine Cleary, Wando High School recently performed "Aida" to multiple sold-out performances. Hundreds of students participated including stand-outs Charlotte Marchell in the lead role of Aida and Will Basco as Adames.
